Bad Ems (Fachbach)
14th June – 6 nights
We will meet at Camping Beach Club, situated near the water’s edge of the River Lahn in Fachbach, where swimming and paddle boarding are convenient and a cycle and footpath follow the river's edge to the nearby town. The popular campsite restaurant serves typical German cuisine and overlooks the river.
Just a twenty minute stroll away is the former Imperial Spa town of Bad Ems with it's magnificent baroque buildings and the Kurwaldbahn, one of the steepest funiculars in the world. No visit to Bad Ems would be complete without tasting the healing spring water of the Emser Kranchen housed in the Brunnenhalle, at the end of a pleasant walk through the Spa Gardens.
A little further afield, but accessible by train, is the exciting city of Koblez, well worth a day trip!
Rüdesheim am Rhein
20th June – 6 nights
Our campsite is located directly next to the romantic River Rhine and the historic ruins of the Hindenburgbrücke. Next door is a heated public swimming pool which often has early/late user discounts, used by our ralliers in the past for an early morning group swim.
From this campsite we are likely to organise a cycle ride and perhaps a group day cruise on the Rhine. It is an easy ten minute walk into town from the campsite along the river or through the park, with it's own wine terrace.
The town's location is one of the reasons it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the rest of the Rhine Gorge. From here, you can see the steep hillsides covered in Riesling vineyards rising up from the river. Across the river is Bingen am Rhein, where the Nahe River joins the Rhine. Rüdesheim is bursting with places to explore. Travel by cable car over the vines to the Niederwald Monument and the Eagle Sanctuary. In the centre, Drosselgasse is a lane lined with shops, taverns and restaurants. While tour groups are out in force in the Drosselgasse on summer days, the locals take over in the evenings, reclaiming their taverns. Nearby, Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet is a museum of automated musical instruments. Medieval Brömserburg Castle is home to the Rheingau Wine Museum, exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present. You can also visit the Asbach Brandy Distillery.
Metz - France
26th June – 6 nights
Our campsite is situated by the River Moselle, within a 15 minutes walk from the city centre, where there is an abundance of shops and restaurants, as well as a handful of places to eat nearer the site. Avenue Foch is a long, wide avenue that runs through the city, with a diversity of architectural styles giving the area it's rare character. It is Metz's most beautiful street – but also it's most expensive!
Metz is a delight to explore, with gardens and leafy promenades along the Moselle and Seille rivers. It's picturesque riverside setting and pretty bridges lend a special charm to the region's capital, named the 'Ville d'Art et Histoire (City of Art and History). In the old town, the Gothic Metz Cathedral is famed for its massive amount of stained glass windows, many by noted artists. Nearby, the Musée de la Cour d'Or displays artifacts from Roman to Renaissance times. The Centre Pompidou-Metz, which exhibits contemporary art is well worth a visit, if only to see the building’s wonderful architecture with its undulating roof. Besides the museum, the visitors can enjoy walking around the beautiful gardens, surrounding the building.
